Pearl can be traced back to the ancient Zhangzhung civilization and it is one of the sacred objects of the Bon religion during the Yongzhong period.
Its patterns are closely related to the religious symbols of the Zhangzhung period. Later, it was introduced to Tibet along with Buddhism and became the first of the seven treasures of Tibetan Esoteric Buddhism.
The main patterns are vases or six-petal lotus flowers, supplemented by geometric lines or eye patterns. The designs are symmetrical and neat, with a strong sense of religious art.
In Tibetan Buddhism, it represents “endless treasure”, symbolizing blessings, wealth and wisdom. The Daluotian Pearl is believed to be able to gather the spiritual energy of heaven and earth and protect its holder from misfortune.
